Product of the year 2010! Although we may be only half way through the year, Cquartz Iron X is a brand new product that is going to take some beating for the aforementioned title. Like the other products in the new Cquartz car care line it does not sit alongside existing products in the marketplace as a rival, but rather defines an entirely new treatment step that offers profound benefits to people who like to care for their vehicles as thoroughly as possible. Hitherto, paint decontamination (when done properly) has always involved two steps; an initial chemical treatment to remove bonded organic contaminants such as tar, bug remains and honeydew, and a second treatment with detailing clay to remove bonded inorganic contaminants such as industrial fallout, brake dust and exhaust soot. After conducting this process thoroughly, we are usually convinced that we have cleaned our paint and glass properly. Well, at least we used to be. After reading up about Cquartz Iron X on various detailing forms we wanted to test it for ourselves, and being somewhat sceptical, we decided to clean the paint on one of our cars the old fashioned way (tar and glue remover followed by detailing clay) and then use it, to see if it could liberate any further contamination from what we considered to be perfectly clean surfaces. Suffice to say, we were quite frankly shocked by what happened next. Over the five minute application period hundreds of tiny purple spots appeared all over the car, indicating that the solution was dissolving iron-containing compounds and particles still stuck either on, or within, the paint system. After rinsing off and drying the car, the paint felt even smoother than before, and subjectively looked a little brighter (a feel good effect maybe?). In many subsequent tests in our studio, we have been similarly amazed by what this product can do. So, there we have it - a brand new product that does not aim to replicate what other products currently do, but rather enable us to do something we have not been able to do before; intensively clean the uppermost layer of our paint and remove sintered iron particulates quickly and efficiently. As a result, we have now modified our own in-house decontamination process to: (i) an initial chemical treatment with Kleenzit to remove bonded organic contaminants such as tar, bug remains and honeydew (ii) a second chemical treatment with Cquartz Iron X to remove bonded iron-containing inorganic contaminants such as industrial fallout and brake dust, and (iii) a third treatment with detailing clay to remove any remaining bonded surface contaminants such as paint overspray and non-ferrous metal particulates (although this last step is frequently not required).

How to Use Cquartz Iron X is water-based and comes pre-diluted to the correct strength for safe exterior use (it is suitable for use on all exterior automotive surfaces with the exception of anything made from, or coated with, chrome). Although it is non-hazardous and pH balanced (it is technically a neutralised acid salt, which means it offers the cleaning power of strong acid but does not have to be separately neutralised), it does have an incredibly pungent smell and should thus only be used in a well ventilated environment (i.e. outdoors). This odour may linger for some time on the ground where the treatment is carried out, so please bear this in mind before use.   For best results, wash and rinse your car as usual and remove any bonded organic contaminants using Kleenzit. Then, working on one panel at a time, spray Cquartz Iron X on liberally and allow 3-5 minutes for it to work; during this interval the initially transparent solution will gradually turn purple as ferrous compounds and sintered iron particulates are dissolved into solution (this effect can be very pronounced, but do not panic, it is quite normal and is to be expected). Next, take a Microfiber Towel and wipe the panel down gently to help remove any stubborn traces of filings, particulates, etc. Finally, rinse the panel down thoroughly with an open ended hose before moving on to the next panel.   Once the whole car is done, rinse the entire exterior again and then proceed to determine whether your paint and glass is perfectly clean by running your fingertips over the wet panels. Clean paint should feel perfectly smooth (if your fingertips aren't particularly sensitive you can magnify your sense of touch by putting your hand inside a thin cellophane wrapper first). If you can feel any remaining rough spots or a gritty texture then it is likely that your paint is still affected by non-ferrous bonded surface contaminants (paint overspray and other metal particulates) and will need to be clayed before any polishing is done or any protection is applied.     16.9oz
